American Water Company uses Ionics products! Since 1949, Ionics has been a leading manufacturer of water
conditioning and purification systems for residential and commercial use. Our most noted
of products include, Ionics' proprietary stainless steel, EPA-registered bacteriostatic
water conditioning systems which not only soften hard water but significantly
reduces chlorine, tastes and odors in home water supplies. Additional products include
reverse osmosis and activated carbon based filtering devices to filter water in
counter-top and under-counter applications. These systems are designed to address the
needs of the consumers who are unable or unwilling to utilize bottled water, yet perceive
the water available from their faucets as unpleasant or unsafe to drink. Furthermore, many
local water supplies are heavily laden with high levels of calcium and magnesium, or
hard water that can scale and clog plumbing and appliances and diminish the
effectiveness of soap products.
Ionics home water
products business has recently showed strong growth, with particular emphasis being made
on the U.S. independent dealer network. With over 200 dealers throughout the U.S., Ionics
can now supply, service and install water treatment systems to households and business'
throughout the country. In addition, Ionics home water products expanded its international
presence with dealers being established in Europe, Central, and South America.
Ionics' Consumer
Products business includes home water purification systems and household bleach and
cleaning products. The growth of the consumer water portion of this business segment over
the past decade is due in part to growing awareness that natural water sources can no
longer be relied on for consistent levels of high water quality, and that even where water
sources have not been tainted, pipelines and other parts of our aging water delivery
system infrastructure are often themselves sources of contamination. The household bleach
and cleaning products business has benefited from the growing trend towards private label
products, and is located primarily at sites which minimize shipping distances to desired
markets.
Home Water Purification Systems
Ionics' home water purification systems, which include ion-exchange conditioners to
"soften" hard water and reverse osmosis and activated carbon-based filtering
devices to purify or filter water in over- and under-the-sink applications, serve several
needs. There are many consumers who are unable or unwilling to utilize bottled water, yet
perceive the water available from their faucets as unpleasant or unsafe to drink. In
addition, many local water supplies are "hard" in that they contain minerals
that can scale and clog appliances and diminish the effectiveness of soap products.
Ionics' home water
products business has shown strong growth recently. Ionics accomplished the registration
in the State of California of its bacteriostatic water softener, which incorporates
HYgene, Ionics' proprietary, EPA-registered activated carbon filtering media, and several
important California distributors of residential water equipment became dealers of Ionics'
products. Also, international sales of Ionics' home water purification systems has been
expanding, with particular sales emphasis being made in Europe and South America.
Distributor relationships were established in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Ireland and Great
Britain. Substantial growth also occurred in the U.S. independent dealer network.
Bleach-Based Consumer Products
Ionics' bleach-based consumer products
include bleach bottled under Ionics' own Elite¨ and Ultrapure labels, as well as private label
bleach, and various other household and janitorial cleaning products. The Company has also
established itself as a significant regional producer in the Northeast of methanol-based
automobile windshield wash solution under the Elite brand and private labels.
Ionics' proprietary
membrane-based Cloromat system enables Ionics to manufacture bleach
essentially using only water and salt as raw materials. The Cloromat is an
environmentally acceptable, safe alternative which eliminates the danger of
handling and shipping the hazardous chemicals required in conventional
bleach manufacturing processes, while economically permitting regional production facilities closer to the desired market.
